Look What I found under the Kitchen Table this Morning!

We obviously have a murderer in our house. Yesterday morning, Emma got another robin and ran downstairs with it first thing. Ted said Blood was visible, but he was able to rescue the poor thing and it flew off. (the crime was witnessed)
But when I entered the kitchen this morning, half asleep, I saw something dark under the table and had a second look...... OMG! A dead bird. No guessing who was responsible....Emma came by and gave it a little sniff, as if to say " humpf....you're no fun anymore...."
We once had a cat who actually ate the birds....thank goodness this isn't the case. I mean, this one was a big as Emma!

Coffee Buddies

Ted goes for coffee every morning with Dwight and Scott - I met his buddy Dwight at the Rotary BBQ last evening. Then Ted fell off his chair - now do you think it was a wobbly chair,
or did his buddy interfere, or was he just clumsy? Hmmmm......

More Excitement at the Brooks House

This afternoon Ted & I were working away quietly, when the commotion started....Emma had brought in a mother robin who was screeching for her life! There were feathers all over my kitchen! Emma was very aggressive, and when we tried to rescue the robin, she ran downstairs with it. Ted went down and finally rescued the momma, and she flew away inspite of having most of her tail feathers missing! Emma was NOT impressed that we took away her catch.... er toy...or whatever... she's probably been stalking it for weeks!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day Dad! We stopped over for a glass of wine and delivered some barbequing savy for Dad. A cedar plank and some Salmon steaks to try on it. Enjoy!

Squeaker Attacked

We have a black cat bully in the neighborhood and he came around in broad daylight yesterday. The girls both hi-tailed it into the house (thank goodness for the kitty door) but not before he got hold of Squeaker's back leg.
She has a small wound, which I have been trying to keep clean with Polysporin applications. I even had to give her a baby aspirin for the pain!

Needless to say, both kitties are pretty vigilent and aren't venturing too far from the patio today.

New cafe in Westlock

It's called the Robin's Nest and is a new venture started by 2 of the South African doctor's wives. (We are so blessed in Westlock to have plenty of doctors- many have moved here from South Africa, and I imagine they were hankering for some old fashioned home cooking!) The ladies also contribute South African crafts, boasting many colorful hand painted tablecloths.

Ted took me there for lunch and I must say i it was delicious! Little things make the difference! Like honey pear dressing on the salad and very interesting flatbread! We will definately go back again!

Ride for MS results

The Ride started early Sautrday morning from Richie Bros Auction, in Nisku. The weather was hot- measuring 30-33 C on the pavement!

Ted sets off with his camel pack all smiles. He finished the approx 80 km day in good time, but was overheated and says it took him over three hours to get cooled down.
Sunday, although he made it nearly all the way, he heated up again and just couldn't get hydrated. He was drinking lots, but his body couldn't keep up, so he had to opt out the last 13 km.
He totaled 150 km over the two-day event. I think that's terrific for his first ride ever! three cheers for Ted!

Ted has the 2-day MS Ride this weekend

I girls & I are home alone this weekend while Ted participates in the 2 day MS Ride. Total distance is 185km. I am working this weekend, or I would be on the sidelines cheering him on!
In the meantime, I am finally getting the planting finished around the yard. New perrenials for the back of the house and new dirt for everyone!
OH! I forgot the west side of the house! Well, I had planned on putting the Alaska Fireweed in there. I might still get a chance to do it! But at the price of annuals, I think I'll bite the bullit and get all perrenials. That way, at some point I won't have to spend so much!

Emma is so Nosey!

Emma definately has "nose troubles."
When she was smaller, she would get trapped inside the cupboards by climbing in there when I was busy cooking and not looking.
Now she can open the doors herself, go inside for a snoop, then let herself out again. What a girl!

It's a Bird!

Yes, Squeaker brought a bird in the house this morning before 8 am!! The thing then flew around the kitchen over my head! Of course, I yelled and scared both of them - so Squeak took her precious find under my bed!!! Ted came to the rescue (of both the bird and me!) and picked up the frightened little thing and took it outside, where it remained dazed & confused on the picnic table. After about 20 minutes, it flew back to its family to tell its tale of a "near death" experience!
