Once in a Blue Moon . . .

There will be a full moon out tonight for New Year's Eve --
and it's blue to boot. Provided the weather clears, New
Yorkers (and anyone else in the Western hemisphere who's looking)
will be treated to a view of what's commonly known as a blue moon,
defined as the second full moon in a single month, or as the third full
moon in a season that has four full moons. Tonight's moon is the second
full moon of December; the first occurred Dec. 2. Though the expression
"once in a blue moon" is used to describe extremely rare events, blue
moons aren't all that unusual, occurring every 2-1/2 years or so. But
a New Year's Eve blue moon is somewhat more remarkable --
we haven't had one since 1990.

Something New for us on Christmas Day!

Because we had our Family Christmas Dinner last weekend,
and our intimate family supper on Christmas Eve, Ted & I
decided to go and see a movie . . . famous last words!
I have NEVER seen the movie theatre so busy. Line ups were all
the way outside the doors, and all 4 debit machines was busy with
long line ups as well. I asked Ted if we should have bought tickets
online . . . I guess the answer was"yes!"
The first showing of "Sherlock Holmes" was sold out, so we
bought tickets for the 2nd showing, and went immediately to the
theatre for seats-it was already filling up! OMG! I've never seen
anything like it! I guess not everyone has a family dinner to go
to on Christmas Day!
Quite an eye opener for me as this was the first movie
I have ever seen on Christmas day!

Hats . . . hmmm . . . reminded me of . . .

Do you remember this story? Poor Bartholomew was
berated for not removing his hat before the king, when
every time he scoffed his hat, another one appeared!

Merry Christmas!

Grandma bought us all hats for Christmas this year....
now if we could only get everyone together for a big
family photo! That would be amazing!

Scott is Speedy Gonzales!

Scott battled the snowy elements this morning to come down and
pull staples and remove the covers from his sofa & loveseat. We
thought he'd be staying overnight, but he's so FAST that he got
the job done this afternoon and went back home right after supper!

All the big grandsons got these winter hats . . .

Kristin & Tyler snuggling a big bear - no winter hats for these 2.

Found Scott a free sofa & loveseat . . .

. . . just sitting behind Westlock Home Furnishers warehouse.
Ted called to see if they wanted him to haul it away and they
said "yes, please!" Aha! It needs recovering, but that's not
a problem is it?

. . . and the 'gang' finished the United Church pews yesterday.
They'll be happy to have comfy seats in time for Christmas
Eve services. What an amazing team we have. Thanks
Steve & Kristin!

OMG!! It was REALLY cold here on Sunday!

(from front page of Edmonton Journal Dec 13th)

EDMONTON SHATTERS COLD RECORD
At -46.1 C, coldest city on the continent beats previous benchmark
low by 10 degrees
F-F-F-F-FRIGID!!!!: Trees caked with fog along 109th Street at
83rd Avenue form an ice cave on Sunday. Edmonton was the coldest
city in North America at minus 46.1 C. recorded at 5 a.m., or minus 58.4,
with the wind chill, at the international airport.

If You got an Itch . . .

. . . .scratch it! That's Emma's motto. She really doesn't care about the
Christmas parcels in the box. Even the rustling tissue paper doesn't
intrigue her.
I think she's miffed because we've put her on a diet! And at Christmas
time too! What a couple of bah! humbugs! eh?

"rockin around the Christmas Tree, have a Happy Holiday . . "

Last night we attended the annual corporate Christmas
party put on for the community businesses by the Westlock
Inn. First we had to sing for our supper, and I might add that
our table was the best of all - "rockin around the Christmas
Tree, have a Happy Holiday . . ."
The meal was great as usual, then we had the the dance with
he most awesome DJ ever! Every time we looked, she had
changed her costume or at least her hat! Right after, "Jail house
Rock" she came out in a striped jumpsuit and threw about 20 hula
hoops onto the floor! Well--- we had to try - I failed miserably, but
Kristin didn't do too badly! Steve won an MP3 player that was
taped under his chair! He's looking forward to impressing his
young boys with his new toy!
We had a great time in spite of the the minus 30 temperature!

Just Working Away . . .

Several big jobs have come in recently, so we are all busy
getting them done. Here I am making organizer components
for Harley lid organizers to be shipped to California.
Ted & Steven are busy figuring out the details for church
pews - it would be really nice to have them for Christmas
services!

Warm enough for Ted to ride . . .

. . . his mountain bike that is! The first day of the storm, as he
was riding around town, a little kid said, "Mister, it's not a good
idea to ride your bike in this kind of weather." Ted of course,
enlightened the little guy to the fact that his tires were both
STUDDED!!!

GWRRA Christmas Party Saturday Night

Wouldn't you know it, we had the same terrible weather LAST
year for the same banquet? We might have to change the date!!
(then the storm might change too- are we cursed?)
About forty people came out in spite of the weather - Al & Arlene
had the flu- get well soon you two!!!
The meal was superb and the company was even better. No takers
for dancing, but we sure caught up with all the gossip & news, as some
folks we hadn't seen since summer riding season.!
Merry Christmas Everyone!

This was earlier today, and I think the heavy snow started
this afternoon! Good thing I have snow tires! Get out the
snowblowers, men!

Kitty prints in the snow . . . didn't go far!
